About the author
I am a production engineer. I have spent ten years on manufacturing lines, first in semiconductor manufacturing and now in automotive electronics, working on process setup, inspection and end-of-line testing.
Why these templates exist
Most of the quality paperwork on a line ends up in Excel anyway: capability studies, PFMEA worksheets, 8D reports for customer complaints, PPAP forms. The sheets I kept seeing were either locked behind macros and add-ins that IT would not allow, or copied so many times that nobody could say where a number came from.
The templates here are plain .xlsx files. Every calculation is an ordinary worksheet
formula you can click into and check. No macros, no add-ins, no scripts.
How the guides are written
- The worked examples use the same sample data that ships with the templates, so you can reproduce every number in the guide.
- Formulas are written out cell by cell, including the places where a common shortcut gives a
different answer (for example
STDEV.SversusSTDEV.P). - Where a standard is involved (AIAG, VDA), the guides describe common practice. They are not a substitute for the published manuals, and the templates are not certified forms.
Guides
- Cpk vs Ppk in Excel: the exact formulas, and what the gap means
- AIAG-VDA FMEA: S, O, D and Action Priority, wired up in Excel
- 8D step D4: the root cause and the escape point, with a worked example
